- Citrus Flavors
Very sweet with tangy acidity and a smooth mouthfeel; lots of fruitiness with cherry, blackberry and citrus flavors.
The Ngutu factory is operated by the Raikamba Farmers Cooperative Society (F.C.S.), which owns seven factories in the area, on the Aberdare Mountains to the south of Mt. Kenya. Farmers in this area started to plant coffee in the early 1950s, and the co-op currently has 4,000 member farmers, about 1,200 of whom deliver to the Ngutu factory. The F.C.S. is managed by an elected body of seven committee members and overseen by a secretary manager; there are 28 permanent staff at the factory. The average farmer raises just 200 coffee trees on farms that are between 1/2–1 acre (or 0.2–0.4 hectare).
ABOUT The Roaster
We know which farms our coffee seeds come from and undertake origin-trips to see these fascinating estates for ourselves.
We appreciate the hard work and the risk that farmers take, by choosing to grow coffee-varieties renowned for their unique flavour rather than their yield.
We roast and brew with the goal of extracting the full potential of the coffee in your cup; that is how we honour the hard labour, that was put in before us at the farm-level.
We are Jonas Reindl Coffee Roasters.
