As we took a family cruise over the holidays to Holland and Germany, we thought we would document our visit to a few interesting coffee spots along the way. With only a few hours in each city we barely had time to pop into Stooker Roasting Company to say hi to owner Florian Hessel. then it was off to Hamburg to say the Christmas markets and we managed to have enjoy a nice round of coffee tasting at Nord Coast Coffee with friends & family too.
This time we side-step our usual coverage of filter coffees to talk about Volcano At Home‘s new coffee pods. With me to discuss this is a regular on our show- the newly appointed head of business development at Volcano (and current Coffee Masters champion) James Wise. Also to highlight Volcano’s quality of pods we use Nespresso’s pods as a benchmark.
Technically this was an impromptu episode made off-the-cuff so to speak because we were on our honeymoon and made no plans to film anywhere or do any kind of Right Roast work. But alas we happened upon a couple of interesting and cafes in both Italy and Croatia, one in Rome-the first truly independent cafe called Faro and in Split, Croatia a pace called D16 Specialty coffee right in the Heart of the old town. So we couldn’t help ourselves and decided to stop, chat & film the owners of both these places and get their perspective and insight into the growing specialty coffee scene in both these places.
In our third installment of the Tokyo coffee scene, we return 6 months later to catch with old friends, including a visit to Light Up Coffee‘s new location & 2014 World Aeropress Champion Shuichi’s new cafe Passage Coffee.
For the new episode I focus on two different Geisha varietals by Jacobsen Og Svart. One a Panama honey process, the other a Hacienda Esmeralda where the beans were frozen immediately after roasting. So what are Geisha beans? Why are they so special? I discuss this and more with two James Wise head of coffee at Treves & Hyde and Ryan Coker head of coffee at Saint Espresso. Both highly talented, James recently won the Coffee Masters competition and Ryan has recently been roasting some Geisha beans himself so both prove excellent people to share with and talk about it all.

– The Coffee Masters! and the fantastic limited edition Niners Series of Coffees that accompany the competition brought out each year by Caravan Coffee roasters (they also keep the origins of the coffees a secret for a few days too).
It’s that time of the year again where we head down to the worlds busiest coffee festival-situated in the heart of hip East London and now in it’s seventh year, The London Coffee Festival showcases some of the UK’s most exciting coffee roasters, manufacturers & innovators.
I get to meet some regulars and a few new faces in the third wave scene including an exciting new coffee project called Standout, a new Geisha-like coffee processed three ways called Wush Wush and much more!
Our first episode featuring a green coffee supplier (as opposed to a coffee roaster) and we kick off with a major player in the specialty coffee world-Nordic Approach. Founded in 2011 by Morten Westergaard & Tim Wendelboe and are now responsible for a large portion of the world’s third wave coffee. I also taste 3 exceptional coffees I managed to grab at one of their cuppings recently and discuss what’s on the horizon.
